This 3-day course will define for the attendee the basic principles of electromagnetic compatibility and then provide proven solutions to common problems of electromagnetic interference. This comprehensive course includes the following topics:
- Fundamentals of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagentic interference (EMI)
- Source of EMI problems and electromagnetic field coupling (with demonstrations)
- Understanding hte transient and stead-state cause of EMI
- Shielding requirements with discussion of near field, far field, and apertures (with demonstrations)
- Designing circuits and systems: principles for creating EMC (with demonstrations)
- Troubleshooting mehtodology: the process of organizing and conducting an EMI investigation
- Troubleshooting equipment limitations and recommendations
- Qualification testing and meting EPRI, military, NRC, and IEEE standards requirements
- Use of grounding ot solve EMI: how, when and nwhy (with demonstrations)
- Protection of equipment from the catastrophic effects of lighting
