CHAR Services was born in 1990 with a vision to provide services to nuclear plants to circumvent control system degradation due to aging. Simple aging issues have grown to include any electrical or electronic issue that affects plant operation or control. Every year we have grown, increasing our knowledge in these areas and passing that knowledge on to the nuclear power plants. Today, we have over 35 nuclear power plants using our equipment and technology themselves trough training and support. In addition, we have assisted most of the other nuclear power plants through our consulting and on-site services. More

In April 2009, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC): Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research released Regulatory Guide 1.211, entitled “Qualification of Safety-related Cables and Field Splices for Nuclear Power Plants.” This Reg Guide "describes a method to comply with regulations... for the qualification of safety related cables and field splices for nuclear power plants."
The Reg Guide has indicated that conformance with the requirements of IEEE Standard 383-2003 is an acceptable method to confirm qualification of 1-E cables but imposes the additional direction: "Programs for monitoring of environmental conditions... and condition monitoring should be implemented... ."
